24 Hours for the Lord – New York City

In honor of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis asked that dioceses around the world would host “24 Hours for the Lord”, a day of prayer and reconciliation. On March 4th, the Sisters of Life hosted this special day at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. We invited many to come in from the cold, pray before Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, and receive the mercy of God through the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation. Prayer was accompanied by music by the Sisters of Life and the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, and the day concluded with a witness shared by one of our Sisters and a Marian Missionary of Divine Mercy, a Eucharistic procession around the cathedral, entering through the Door of Mercy.

“…So many people, including young people, are returning to the Sacrament of Reconciliation; through this experience they are rediscovering a path back to the Lord, living a moment of intense prayer and finding meaning in their lives.”

Three of our Toronto sisters hosted a women’s retreat for students attending Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy in Barry’s Bay. They gave talks on authentic freedom & joy, the feminine heart and mercy.  Sr. Maria Regina shared her vocation story, followed by a showing of the CMSWR vocations video, “For Love Alone”.  Being out in the beautiful snowy wilderness really aided in encountering the Lord in prayer, along with a priest from Madonna House coming to lead them all in a Eucharistic Healing Procession.

“… In each of our lives we always need to begin again, to get up again, to rediscover the meaning of the goal of our lives, so also for the great human family it is always necessary to rediscover the common horizon toward which we are journeying. The horizon of hope! …The season of Advent restores this horizon of hope.

…The model of this spiritual disposition, of this way of being and journeying in life, is the Virgin Mary. A simple girl from the country who carries within her heart the fullness of hope in God! In her womb, God’s hope took flesh, it became man, it became history: Jesus Christ.”

– Pope Francis
