For the past 15 years, Serra Club International has sponsored an annual Ordinandi Dinner- a large banquet and evening to support the class of deacons about to be ordained priests for the diocese of Toronto, Hamilton and Peterborough.  The Ordinandi Luncheon was added 2 years ago to reach out to high school students and promote to the priesthood and religious life.  This year, on March 4th, approximately 800 teenagers came from all around the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) and beyond.  Games were played, a delicious lunch was served, Sr. Cecilia Rose and Deacon Scott Birchall shared parts of their vocation stories and His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Collins gave a reflection.  There was prayer and laughter and all around it was a beautiful day with the teens.  Other communities who were present included the Sisters of Our Lady Immaculate (“SOLI sisters”) and Servants of the Lord and the Virgin Matara.

On December 8th, approximately 350 coworkers and friends of the Sisters of Life joined us for our yearly Advent Afternoon, held this year at St. Paul’s Basilica in Toronto. We enjoyed a beautiful celebration of the Holy Mass, celebrated by Bishop Kirk Patrick, Vicar for Religious, and gathered afterward for food and fellowship in the hall below.  Sr. John Mary shared a beautiful reflection on her time in Mexico City and Our Lady of Guadalupe and explained how our co-workers are our “Roses in the Winter”.  The evening concluded with candles and songs of the season.
